    More moderation, please!

And I'm not talking about abusing messages - I haven't run into any yet :) The problem is misplaced threads. In 'How to use the forums', e.g. there are several threads that belong under 'How do I?'. These questions might be overseen by many, both those who might be able to answer them, and those who are looking for an answer for the same question. When there already are many threads like this in the section, people think they have found the right place.

A part of a moderators job is to move misplaced threads and to guide people.

You're right about that -- all four of the first ones have messages better suited to other locations.  I placed one myself, because I had found a similar one there.  [Bad precedent!]

Still, once you log in, the forums with new posts or threads, have a red disc; the green disc shows the ones that do not.  That helps me to find new posts!!  [Took me a while to discover that -- wonder what else I may not have seen yet.]

Hello ~ There are some Forum Shortcuts under the Chinese Dragon (at least he's there today 10/10/08) ... I always use the "Posts you have not read" to make for quick reading & to keep up on whats new.  Hope that helps... Have a Wonderful Weekend!Cool

    Re: More moderation, please!

Except that the "front page" of the forum doesn't update properly, it's supposed to show the latest post, which it quite often doesn't... Also, if you are new here and are looking for answers, it doesn't really help you to know where there are new threads. I guess I'm not as nice as you guys, I usually disgard threads placed in the wrong place.

I think my main concern is the lack of moderation and reactions from who ever is responsible of these forums. It's obvious that any forum wouldn't run at all, if the members didn't help as much as they can, but there are some responsibilities associated with keeping a forum. I've resently started visiting Beading daily and the B&B forum, and both seem to have the same problem. I'm more or less active at three Europian forums, all based on volunteering, and I'm quite, hmm, let's be nice and say surprised to see how things "work" in these two forums. Beading daily is of course a new forum, but it would've been a good idea to do some research on the subject and not just jump into it.

If someone asks something that can't be answered by another member, or reports something, they should be acknowledged with some kind of an answer. If Beading daily isn't capable of moderating the forum, they could always invite some members as moderators.

Well, well, well, there has actually been some action after I started the thread! The Forum help folder has been cleaned up, which is good. I hope the posters were informed, so they can find their threads >;)

I'm sorry, the cleaning up only works in cybespace - if you had seen my flat, you wouldn't want me anyway near your closets =:O

Now I'll have a recharge of coffee, and then we'll just have to wait and see, what happens :D

Kirsi - I guess for me ( and this is the only type of website that I post on ) whether it is in the right location doesn't bother me. There have been questions posted in the right spot but then through answers and discussions a whole other topic takes place.

I do understand what you are saying. But for me, I am on here almost every day and simply pull up a listing under the heading. Then I can usually remember the ones that I have been to. Even if I have posted if someone else has posted I will go back in a read the others.

I guess everyone has a different way of looking at these. Just thought I would post my thoughts.

    Good Luck and Thanks!

Thanks for that tip Stan. I never realized it.

And when I see trhe red disc, I click on the bold face title next to it.  That gives me a complete list of all threads, and I can see which ones I have not read -- they have either a red pencil, or a red star on them.  I do not know what the symbols mean.  Once I've gone through the forums, I click on the phrase 'posts you have not read'.  Right now [today] that is right under the red beaded [chinese] dragon on the right side of the page.

    Re: More moderation, please!

I can understand how that would be difficult for someone new, but since I've been here a while I use the "posts I haven't read" shortcut as well, so I don't even use the categories unless I'm starting a new post.  If it's something I want to remember, I add it to my favorites so I can go back to it later, or I go to my profile and look through the lists of items I've posted too (although it seems I'm a little out of control on the posting-what can I say, I finally have an outlet).

I agree with the above response.

Every time I come into the site to ask or look for an answer I can't find the door.

I became frustrated because I couldn't find my way so I would end up leaving.

If it was listed in and index or alphabetical order perhaps we could find the subject matter.

Thanks for looking into this matter.

Good suggestions!  Keep them coming--we have some ideas for changes for 2009 and always appreciate everyone's ideas.

The forums are searchable--you can use the search box at the top of the page.  But it also searches everything else on the website and that's not always the most helpful.

    Re: More moderation, please!

I don't find the Help with Forums very helpful. I think it would be best if there was a first time/new user page. Give specific instructions on how to post a new question, how to reply, etc. There are still things that I am not sure exactly how to do.

Alot of questions are asked on the welcome page because I think they have not figured out how/where best to post the question. For me, it doesn't matter where it is posted. I will help if I can.

    Just my thoughts...

    Good Luck and Thanks!
